I’m not Jewish, but I like the idea of a New Year beginning in September. Since I work as a college professor, I tend to think of time in terms of the academic calendar – September-August. For me, Summers fluctuate between chaos and relaxation (temping, traveling, etc.). In September I regroup and fall back into some semblance of routine.
This semester I am teaching eight classes at two colleges, including Public Speaking, Research & Analysis, Theatre Essentials, and First Year Experience Seminar. I am also working on a MBA in fashion – bizarre, but true. It turns out that adjunct faculty at my fashion college can take up to two classes free of charge. I figured, why not give the MBA a go? So far the coursework is manageable. I’m not giving up on French, though. Next week I’ll begin my conversation course on Monday nights. I hope it will be light on the homework. This semester is getting pretty packed. I still need to work off all that bread and cheese I lived on this summer in France. Thankfully, Planet Fitness (the gym just down the block from me) had a special – $99 for the year! Sold. I mean, if I can even go once a week it will totally be worth it. I feel like there are changes on the horizon, but for now I am content where I am at. I look forward to seeing what the new year brings. Let’s hope I will be ready for it.
