Back in the Saddle

I can never sleep the day before a new semester of school starts. I’m not sure why. It’s not that I’m nervous. I think it’s just the energy and excitement of the opening show. There will be familiar faces mixed among the new, and I’ve taught all of these classes before. Still, this experience will be unlike any of the others. It’s always that way. Each group of students has its own chemistry. I won’t really know what I’m in for until tomorrow. So although it’s almost midnight, and I should be sleeping as I have to be up at 5:15am, I’m painting my nails a bright plumberry and reading the Times online. Spring semester starts in eleven minutes. Where did the break go? Oy.
