Day 13: American Eagle Heels

Silver American Eagle HeelsMemorial Day Weekend is not a great time to find a job, so I’m taking a break from my relentless searching. I went to the Met Museum this morning to check out the Alexander McQueen exhibit. These are the best shoes I had to honor McQueen’s memory.  Thankfully, the Met is one of those museums with a “suggestion donation.” It’s a little intimidating to hand over less than the $20 suggested fare. I couldn’t quite look the ticket person in the eye. I wanted to tell the lady, “Listen, I’m not a cheapskate; I’m just unemployed at the moment,” but don’t worry – I didn’t. I just handed over my dollar, smiled, and went inside. The collection is absolutely stunning. The feathers. The drama. The whimsy, and yet fierceness of the gowns and accessories. The well-curated narratives. I remember when the Highland Rape collection came out when I was in high school. I read about it in the Style section of the Newspaper. I didn’t know a lot about fashion then, but even I could tell that this designer had something special. “There is no way back for me now. I am going to take you on journeys you’ve never dreamed were possible.” – Alexander McQueen Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty Met Musuem
